Sapporo Park - a great view looking out the window from our hotel room.

Breakfast at Sapporo Park Hotel.

The hotel garden was neatly manicured with pieces of Japanese culture.

After checking out of the hotel, we drove to the nearby Sapporo Curb Market.

Despite being a local market, the cleanliness and professionalism of the workers there kept me in awe. This elderly fishmonger was neatly dressed and thinly sliced this salmon so swiftly. As this was our last day of the trip, we bought a freshly cooked Hokkaido King Crab which they packed in dry ice and in a Styrofoam box, to survive the 6 hour flight back home.

A short drive from the market and we arrived at the Shiroi Koibito Park. This is a theme park by Ishiya which flagship product the Shiroi Koibito cookies; two think butter cookies with white chocolate in between. The park consists of various Disneyland style buildings housing shops, a cafe, and a chocolate factory.

Visitors can view the production process of the cookies behind glass windows.

We heard from fellow travellers about a delicious barbecue black pork and rice dish. We headed to this small restaurant serving this dish for lunch. The aroma of the barbecue pork made it an even more mouth watering experience. Oichi!

Takino Suzuran Hillside Park. The park covers almost 400 hectares in the foothills about 20km south of Sapporo.

Takino Suzuran Hillside Park.

The Ashiribetsu Falls is a 26 m high waterfall. It is one of the 100 most famous waterfalls in Japan.

Before making our way to Chitose airport, we stopped by the Chitose Rera Outlet mall. It was your typical branded outlet mall - single story building made up of high end shops selling last seasons wares.

Dinner at the airport was at a sushi bar. Not only was the food good, but the staff behind the counter bantering with each other and shouting out orders made it a very entertaining experience.

Good bye Hokkaido. We loved the fresh seafood. We loved the scenic drives. We loved the natural onsens. Hope to be back soon.

  1. The pork rice looks fantastic! Do you still remember the name of the restuarant?
