The cloudy skies and cooler temperature meant that we were in for a wet day. The plan was to have a quick walk through the Senjoji temple area before the tourist crowds come in, have lunch at Tsukiji market, and then head indoors into the malls once its rains.

Dragon carvings on the underside of the huge red lantern at the entrance of the Senjoji temple.

Entrance to Senjoji temple.

The water fountain at the temple entrance is meant for purifying yourself by drinking and cleaning your hands before making your way into the temple.

Walking down the Nakamise Street, saw this Japanese dude hanging out on the roof tops. Or is it a statue?

A variety of Japanese animation action figures.

Nakamise Street has a good variety of Japanese snacks.

Masks for all personalities ... Ultraman, Hello Kitty, Thomas the Train... hmmm who do I feel like being today?

Beautifully designed postcards.

Beautiful Japanese slippers for women. Japanese women wear these when they wear their kimonos. Notice the "made in Japan only" sign? *wink*

Headed off to Ginza station on route to Tsukiji Fish market. The Tokyo subways can be daunting to navigate. Thankfully, signs and maps are in English. The Ginza station has about 30 different exits!

Now that's what wasabi looks like.

Tsujiki Fish market.

Japanese pottery and kitchen utensils.

Tsukiji market has several small restaurants serving the freshest seafood sushi and sashimi. The more popular (Sushi Daiwa and Dai Sushi) ones had long queues which meant waiting in line for at least 45 minutes. We selected a less popular one.

The dishes were simply delicious. The whole experience was amazing - sitting at the counter in cramped conditions, observing the well dressed chef and his apprentice (notice the tie?) deftly preparing the dishes, while we slowly savoured our our sushi, sashimi and eel. A set for one person cost ¥ 2,000.

This Japanese shrine at the entrance to the Tsukiji market is primarily for the workers at the market.

As it started to rain, we headed off west to Shinjuki to take cover in a mall. The basement of the Odakyu Shopping Center had a great food area selling Japanese cakes. Looks too good to eat. Then off to some window shopping around Shinjuku and then to Ikebukuro.

Dinner time. At Ikebukuro we were at Sunshine City mall  and headed up to the top floor where the restaurants are. A small bottle of cold sake to start with. Cheers!.

My sashimi set dinner.
