After arriving at Yumoto Station, we alighted from the Romance Car train and took another train bound for Gora.

After arriving at Gora station (above), we asked for directions to our hotel from the Tourist Office just beside the station. The lady there spoke English and pointed towards a brown building a mere two minute walk from the station.

A quaint rustic path leads up to the hotel entrance.

Take a moment to admire the beauty and rest your legs...

Setsugetsuka Hotel entrance. Lovely sliding door with Japanese inspired flower motifs.

Setsugetsuka Hotel entrance. A very inviting entrance done neatly Japanese style.

Setsugetsuka Hotel reception. With English speaking staff at the reception, checking in was a breeze. They explained the use of the Yukatas and gave us a map of the hotel pointing out the location of the three onsens. Yes, three! Private ones; one with carbonated water and one with natural hot spring water.

As check in time was 3pm, we left our bags with the reception and decided to make use of our Hakone Free Pass, and took the cable car and ropeway, with the purpose of capturing some views of Mt Fuji as it was a bright and clear day.

We were not disappointed. While on the ropeway travelling from Souzan and Owakudani, Mt Fuji came into view. The clear spring day made the view crystal clear, with Fuji-san's snow capped peak glistening in the sunlight.

Ahoy there! It does seem a little tacky these pirate boats, but it looked like a fun way to travel across Lake Ashi. We decided to head back to the hotel the same way (ropeway and cable car) as we did not want to miss our dinner time reservation. We will be back to board the pirate boat tomorrow.

Taking the cable car down to Gora.

The hotel room at Setsugetsuka Hotel was, by Japanese standards, huge! Entirely covered with tatami mats, the beds were on a raised platform.

The room has a small table with floor chairs. Sliding doors to a balcony that overlooks lush greenery.

The brightly lit toilet, immediately on the left near the room main entrance, is separate from the bathroom. Notice the bathroom slippers stuck on the doors?

The bathroom has a sink, regular toiletries, towels, and a clear glass shower stall.

The shower stall.

The shower stall opens into the balcony where a wooden cedar tub is available for those inclined for a outdoor night time soak. The weather that day was not appealing enough to draw me into that tub. Preferred to soak in the onsens instead.

Dinner time. We had a choice of two types of dinner. We chose the Japanese Kaiseki dinner; a multi course Japanese dinner. This was the dinner menu.

Appetisers. though small and bite size, one must appreciate the creative artistry behind the food preparation and presentation.

Sahimi.

Tofu served on wooden sticks with three different types of sauces.

The rice together with some seaweed, was cooked in a container over a charcoal flame right at our table. The waitress then mixed it with peas and prawns.

Dessert was unassuming and not too heavy, complimenting the dishes we had earlier
